CONSULTANT PAEDIATRIC NEUROPSYCHOLOGIST

Dr Angela Simcox

BSc(Hons), DClinPsychol, CPsychol, PGDip, QiCN, AFBPsS

I am a Consultant Paediatric Neuropsychologist with over 20 years’ experience working with children, young people and their families following brain injury. I am fascinated by how extraordinary the developing brain can be even in the face of adversity, and I love being able to help children and families understand their needs and work on reaching their full potential.

I was working as a care assistant back in 2000 when I first heard of the paediatric neuropsychologist role in a job advert for a new service at Leeds General Infirmary. I knew then it was the career for me and I was thrilled to be able to start my journey in that department as a trainee a few years later. I have been lucky enough to work in some of the leading teaching hospitals in the UK and broaden my experience and learning with work overseas in Cambodia and Australia leading health services and running projects for NGOs.

My career journey has evolved to see me leading paediatric neuropsychology teams at Great Ormond Street and UCLH - and Indigo Neuropsychology has evolved with me. Today we provide access to crucial but scarce neuropsychology inputs to dozens of new children with brain injuries every year, providing them the specialist care that they need to grow and to thrive.

LEAD CONSULTANT CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Dr Tracey Smith

BSc(Hons), DClinPsychol, CPsychol `

I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist who feels passionately about providing the best care possible to the children, carers and families that I work with. For more than 20 years I have worked in a variety of mental and physical health services to ensure that each child reaches their maximum potential.

Working in a children’s home in America in my early career consolidated my understanding of adversity and trauma, alongside an awareness of the importance of an early formulation and multi-disciplinary intervention to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Subsequently I developed a particular interest in neurodevelopment and developmental trauma and have led a variety of NHS services; most recently the regional implementation of a national programme to provide trauma informed care in the children’s secure estate. My current NHS role involves providing professional leadership and oversight to psychological professionals working in services across the lifespan. I also spent many years training clinical psychologists.

We established Indigo Neuropsychology to offer neurorehabilitation for children who have a brain injury to ensure that the whole system shares the same understanding of what is needed. We focus on providing safe, effective and quality care underpinned by a collaborative, trauma informed approach to meet the child, family and carers goals.  It is important to me to remain connected to the families we work with and I strive to balance working clinically with supporting the Indigo team to grow and develop.

CONSULTANT BUSINESS COACH

Duncan Smith

Consultant Business Coach - Duncan Smith

BEng(Hons), CEng

I have been lucky enough to spend my 35 year working life working with and leading teams of highly talented and hard-working individuals.

I have worked in settings ranging from small consulting businesses to complex manufacturing companies. Along the way, I have managed some of the world’s largest infrastructure projects - including experience working across the UK, New Zealand, Australia, America and Germany.

I have built and led diverse teams - capable of delivering difficult projects, in challenging circumstances, with complex stakeholder relationships. I also have a deep understanding of what it takes to successfully lead teams through periods of significant business change

Throughout all of this, I have seen my share of the twin imposters of success and failure. What all this has taught me is that having a truly rewarding career is all about harnessing talent and helping the individuals in our teams become the best possible version of themselves.

My journey with Indigo is in its infancy, but I already know that helping this group of extraordinary individuals is proving to be great fun and hugely invigorating.

I hope, along the way, to be able to share some of my learnings and to help other individuals and teams have as rewarding experience of their jobs as I have been fortunate enough to.

CONSULTANT CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Dr Sarah Sharkey

BSc(Hons), DClinPsych

I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with nearly two decades of experience supporting children, young people, and their families, particularly those navigating the impact of additional neurodevelopmental needs.

Since qualifying in 2006, I’ve worked across a wide range of clinical settings, including early child health and disability services, secure care, CAMHS, and paediatrics such as chronic pain. This breadth has shaped me into a flexible, grounded clinician who can adapt to the unique challenges each family faces.

I work closely with medical and multidisciplinary teams, offering a holistic perspective that brings together psychological and physical health. I draw on a range of therapeutic models to tailor support that truly fits each child’s needs and the realities of family life.

What matters most to me is helping families feel understood, empowered, and supported during times of uncertainty or change. Whether a child is adjusting after a brain injury, coping with trauma, or managing long‑term health challenges, I aim to create a safe, compassionate space where strengths are recognised and resilience can grow. A space where we are all working together to find a way forward that feels hopeful and achievable.
